ERIK POPE / ERIK POPPE

Erik Poppe (1960, Oslo) began his career as a press photographer, winning several awards. After studying at the Dramatiska Institutet in Stockholm, he worked as a cinematographer on several feature films before making his debut as a director with Schpaa (1998) which screened in the Panorama at Berlin. The film was the first instalment in his multi-award-winning Oslo Trilogy which also comprises Hawaii, Oslo (2004) and Troubled Water (2008). His film The King’s Choice (2017) also screened in Panorama at Berlin. He directed film Utøya: July 22 about the terrorist attack on a camp on an island near Oslo when Anders Breivik killed 77 civilians.
