Alone on a seaside vacation, Leda becomes consumed with a young mother and daughter as she watches them on the beach. Maggie Gyllenhaal (1977) was born in New York. She receive a degree in literature from Columbia University and studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London. After graduation, she appeared in Donnie Darko (2001) alongside brother Jake Gyllenhaal. Her breakout role came in Secretary (2002). Other notable film performances include Mona Lisa Smile (2003) and The Dark Knight (2008). Gyllenhaal received great acclaim for her role in Crazy Heart (2009), which earned the actress her first Oscar nomination. The Lost Daughter (2021), screen adaptation of Elena Ferrante’s novel same title, is her directorial debut.
