THE CARD COUNTER

William is an ex-military interrogator living under the radar as a low-stakes gambler. Tell’s meticulous life is thrown into disarray when he encounters Cirk, a young man looking to commit revenge against a mutual enemy. With backing from mysterious financier, Tell takes Cirk on the casino circuit. However, he finds that the ghosts of the past will not release him so easily.

Paul Schrader (1946) is an American screenwriter and director. After graduating from film school in Los Angeles he worked as a film critic until selling his first script, The Yakuza (1975). He wrote the screenplay for Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver (1976), the success of which led to his directorial debut, Blue Collar (1978). Known for depictions of desperate men with moral ambivalence, he has written several screenplays, including three more with Scorsese: Raging Bull (1980), The Last Temptation of Christ (1988) and Bringing Out the Dead (1999). Schrader has also directed over 20 feature films, including Cat People (1982) and also American Gigolo, Light Sleeper, Affliction, Auto Focus… For First Reformed was awarded for the Best Director at the 46th FEST 2018.
