NITRAM

Nitram lives with his mother and father in suburban Australia in the Mid 1990s. He lives a life of isolation and frustration, never being able to fit in. That is until he unexpectedly finds a close friend in a reclusive heiress, Helen. However, when that relationship meets a tragic end and Nitram’s loneliness and anger grow, he begins a slow descent that leads to disaster.

Nitram is based on the 1996 Port Arthur massacre, which is one of the worst crimes in Australian history that saw a mass shooter kill 35 people and injure another 23.

Justin Kurzel’s first feature film The Snowtown Murders screened in over 15 international festivals including Toronto in 2011 and International Critics Week in Cannes. His film adaptation of William Shakespeare’s Macbeth (2015) was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival. In 2016 he directed the blockbuster adaptation of Assassins’ Creed. True History of the Kelly Gang (2019) was selected at FEST 2020.
