MADRES PARALELAS / PARALLEL MOTHERS

Two women coincide in a hospital room where they are going to give birth. Both are single and became pregnant by accident. Janis, middle-aged, doesn’t regret it and is exultant. The other, Ana, an adolescent, is scared, repentant and traumatised. Janis tries to encourage her while they move like sleepwalkers along the hospital corridors. The few words they exchange in those hours will create a very close link between the two, which by chance develops and becomes complicated, changing their lives in a decisive way.

PEDRO ALMODOVAR / Pedro Almodóvar

Pedro Almodóvar (1949) is a Spanish director, screenwriter and producer. He arrived in Madrid in 1968, but couldn’t study filmmaking because he didn’t have the money to afford it. Besides, the filmmaking schools were closed in early 70s by Franco’s government. Instead, he found a job in the Spanish phone company and saved his salary to buy a Super 8 camera. From 1972 to 1978, he devoted himself to make short films with the help of of his friends. In few years, Almodóvar became a star of La Movida, the cultural movement of late 70s Madrid. His first feature film, Pepi, Luci, Bom and Other Girls (1980), was made in 16 mm. Today, he is considered one of the most important film authors in Europe.
